Why we built CalmKeeper

Panic attacks are common and can happen anywhere - in a meeting, at the supermarket, at a party, alone at home at night or in a crowd. But there's a lack of understanding about how to cope and gain relief from what can be terrifying symptoms.

Panic attacks can be treated and your mind can be put to rest with the right tools. CalmKeeper is a way of putting those tools in your hands.

CalmKeeper provides immediate access to tools that will help you cope in a panic attack. It also helps you learn about panic. Understanding how panic works is the first step to overcoming it. 

We know that people who get panic attacks gain confidence with incremental improvements in managing their situation. Because CalmKeeper is discreet, private
and can go everywhere, we think people
will feel comfort knowing that help is in their pocket or purse.

Designed by clinical psychologists, CalmKeeper is designed to work on its own, or in conjunction with therapy.

 

Meet Nigel Fairley

Nigel Fairley

Nigel is one of New Zealand's leading clinical psychologists.

As well as maintaining a private psychology practice, Nigel is Executive Director for Capital & Coast DHB Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Directorate, the Director of Area Mental Health Services for Capital & Coast DHB, and the Clinical Director for Capital & Coast DHB Regional Forensic Mental Health Services (adult and youth). 

Nigel is a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists, and was President of the College from 2006 - 2012. He's currently the president of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and the Law (ANZAPPL).  

In 2012 Nigel was awarded the John Bushnell Award for leadership in Clinical Psychology, highlighting his years of sustained and exceptional contribution.

Meet Kimberley Sutherland

Kimberley Sutherland

Kimberley works in a private psychology practice in Wellington, New Zealand. As well as private clients, Kimberely works with ACC, NZ police, the Family Court and primary health providers and employment assisted services. She also works for Capital and Coast DHB in Forensic Intellectual Disability Services. 

Kimberley is a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. Her qualifications include a BSc, MSc (Distinction) and Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PGDip ClinPsyc). In 2008 her research on autobiographical memory was published in the Journal of Clinical Experimental Neuropsychology 2009 July; 31 (5): 575 -83.
